Mesut Ozil has cast doubt over his Arsenal future after seeking assurances before putting pen-to-paper on a new contract.
The Germany international’s current deal expires in July 2018 and the Gunners are trying to secure an extension before the start of next season.
According to the Daily Star, Ozil needs ‘persuading‘ if he is to sign a new deal.
Arsenal are understood to have set aside £160,000-a-week for Ozil would see him made the club’s highest earner.
The news comes amid speculation linking Ozil with a move to Fenerbahce. The Sun newspaper claimed he will join the Istanbul giants over the next three years.
The World Cup winner is of course a Fenerbahce fan having grown up supporting the club.
Ozil told the Sabah last July: “In the future I want to wear a Fenerbahce shirt. It would be an honour. Everyone knows I am a Fenerbahce fan.”
While Arsenal may currently be 4th in the Premier League, Ozil has been in great form for his club providing the most assists in the league (19) and having created the most chances (130).
