Besiktas have established contact with Barcelona in order to enquire about the possibility of signing Thomas Vermaelen.
The Turkish daily sports paper Fanatik has reported that Besiktas board member Erdal Torunoğulları has held early talks with the Catalan giants.
The report goes onto state that Besiktas are keen to wrap up the deal before the end of the season.
Vermaelen has managed just ten appearances for Barcelona following an injury plagued season.
The 3-year-old joined the La Liga giants from Arsenal for €19 million back in 2014. Vermaelen has three years remaining on his current deal with Barcelona.
Besiktas’ defence has been in the spotlight following a string of high-profile errors including one on Saturday against Akhisar Belediyespor this weekend.
Besiktas at the top of the Premier League and are currently six points ahead of their Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce.
The Yellow Canaries do however have the chance to slash the point gap down to three points is they can record a win away to Trabzonspor.
