Arsenal star would have quadrupled assist record if he was at Real Madrid, says Piers Morgan

Arsenal v Manchester Utd Mesut Ozil

Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil could have recorded more assists this season had Arsene Wenger singed a new striker according to Piers Morgan.

The high profile Gunners fan phoned TalkSport to vent his frustrations following Arsenal’s disappointing end to the season.

The Gunners were favourites to win the league at Christmas but their title challenge has derailed in the final weeks.

“The one stat that got me, Ozil has done 233 assists in terms of goal making passes since joining Arsenal” Piers Morgan told TalkSport.

“Of those chances about 32 have been converted. Had he done that at his previous club Real Madrid that would have probably been quadrupled.”

Ozil looked set to break Thierry Henry’s Premier League assist record of 20 after he set up 16 goals by the end of December. However, since the turn of the year the 27-year-old has provided just two assists in the league.

The former Real Madrid starcould have more assists to his name had it not been for the profligacy of his teammates.

Ozil has the record for creating the highest amount (137) of goalscoring chances in a Premier League season, but the Gunners have the lowest goal record in the top four.

The Gunners payed out a 0-0 draw with Sunderland earlier today leaving them level on points with the Manchester City.
