Mesut Ozil has missed out on an opportunity to break the Premier League record for the number of assists in a season.
The current record is held by the Arsenal legend Thierry Henry for 20 assists. Ozil ended the season with 19 assists after setting up Olivier Giroud on the final day of the season.
Ozil looked set to smash the former France international’s record when he racked up 16 assists by the end of December.
Arsenal crushed Aston Villa in their final league game of the season to overtake North London rivals Tottenham who suffered a shock 5-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.
Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid back in September 2013 for a club record £42 million and helped Arsenal break their long wait for silverware with back-to-back FA Cup wins.
The former Real Madrid man is expected to star for Germany at Euro 2016 over the summer.
