Emre Can has stated that it is an honour to be able to wear the number 23 shirt for Liverpool football club.
The shirt number was popularised by Jamie Carragher during his playing days at the Reds.
“I was aware that Carragher had had the number before me and it was a big thing for me that he had worn that number,” Can told the Anfield Wrap.

Carragher achieved legendary status as a Liverpool defender winning the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul against AC Milan.
The former Liverpool star now works as a football pundit for Sky Sports and features in the Monday Night Football program.
Can has also played as a defender in Reds boss Brendan Rodgers back-three and as a right-back this season but he did join the club as a central midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.
The 21-year-old made 40 appearances in all competitions in his first season at the Premier League giants.
Can is expected to move into his preferred central midfield role next season with captain Steven Gerrard set to leave the club for the MLS.
