Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has praised the fighting spirit his teammates have shown this season.
Can who has developed a reputation as being a combative player hailed the Reds team spirit and underlined that his teammates have developed a close bond.
“[Team spirit is] very important both away from the pitch and on it because you can see when the players in a team understand each other,” Can told Liverpoolfc.com.
“You can see that in the performances in the first three games and we go out together at times so you can say we’re friends as well as teammates.”
Can also revealed that fighting for the team on the pitch is vital to be successful in the game.
“I think that’s important [to battle] regardless of how good you are or how well you’re playing,” he added.
“You need to fight for each other in football and you can see that’s working with us not conceding to date.
“Everybody’s fighting hard and long may it continue.”
The 21-year-old was called up for the Germany senior team today. Can had previously played for Germany at U21 level but was also eligible to represent Turkey at senior level.
Liverpool take on West Ham United on the weekend and Can is expected to start for the second game running following the goalless draw against Arsenal at the Emirates last week.
Hammers boss Slaven Bilic was in charge of the Beşiktaş side that knocked the Reds out of the Europa League Round of 32 last season.
The Reds will participate in the Europa League group stages again this season again and have been drawn against French side Bordeaux, Russian giants Rubin Kazan and Swiss outfit FC Sion in Group B.
