Former Liverpool defender and football pundit Jamie Carragher has praised the versatility Emre Can has shown since joining the Reds.

Can joined Liverpool on a £9.75 million move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer as a central midfielder but has played most of the season at his new club as a defender in Brendan Rogers back-three.

Carragher revealed that he has been impressed with Can in defence but also believes that playing in the back-three gives the 21-year-old a chance to showcase his talent as a midfielder.

“It gives him time to step into midfield – even though we’re saying he’s playing at the back, he’s actually playing in midfield as well because he can step in and add that extra man,” Carragher told the official Liverpool website.
