Southampton v Liverpool Betting Tips and Prediction
EFL Cup excitement continues tonight when Liverpool travel south to take on Southampton in the semi-finals.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to a 0-0 draw in the FA Cup over the weekend and will be keen to bounce back to winning ways tonight. The competition also is a chance for the Reds to win their first cup under the German tactician.
Southampton team news:
Southampton will be without their star defender and captain Jose Fonte after he handed in a transfer request earlier this week. Manager Claude Puel has stated that he will not include Fonte in his squad until the end of the transfer window.
Puel will be unable to select Boufal, Charlie Austin, Matt Targett, Cedric Soares and Alex McCarthy due to injuries.
Liverpool team news:
Brazil International midfielder Philippe Coutinho will return for Liverpool against Southampton tonight but is expected to be on the bench. German goalkeeper Loris Karius is set to keep his place in goal following a clean sheet against Plymouth.
Klopp will be unable to call upon club captain Jordan Henderson and Cameroon international Joel Matip due to injuries.
Box-to-box midfielder Emre Can is expected to keep his place in Liverpool’s starting eleven alongside the in-formAdam Lallana.
Form:
Liverpool – Last five results:
Drew 2-2 vs. Sunderland
Won 1-0 vs. Man City
Won 4-1 vs. Stoke
Won 1-0 vs. Everton
Southampton – Last five results:
Drew 2-2 vs. Norwich
Lost 3-0 vs. Everton
Lost 2-1 vs. West Brom
Lost 4-1 vs. Tottenham
Won 3-1 vs. Bournemouth
Betting Tips & Prediction:
Liverpool will be keen to gain an advantage in the first leg of the semi-finals as they look for their first trophy under Klopp. The Reds are unbeaten in their last five games and are strengthened by the return of Coutinho. Meanwhile, Southampton have won just one of their last five games and are without their star defender and captain for tonights encounter.
Liverpool are favourites to win tonight with odds of 13/10 (2.3) favourites to win. While I believe the Reds can record a victory over a weakened Southampton side, Draw no Bet at 3/5 (1.57) looks to be a safe bet which offers good value.
Prediction: 2-1 Liverpool
