Rodgers also underlined that he has been impressed with Can’s tactical intelligence.
“His positional sense for a young player is very, very good. He’s got a great view of the game, understands the game tactically very well, he’s strong and has got good stature,” he added.
Can has featured as a defender in the Reds last 11 games but got the opportunity to showcase his midfield ability in the recent FA Cup Fourth Round replay against Bolton.
Liverpool won the game 2-1 and Can who initially started in defence excelled when he was pushed forward into a midfield role.
The 21-year-old struck the post with a long range effort and provided a sublime assist for Raheem Sterling on 86 minute to level the scores.
Rodgers could be tempted to play Can in midfield against Everton in the Merseyside derby on the weekend.
Can has made a total of 19 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.
