Man United plot move for £17m ace who left Arsenal for just £500K in 2012, Tottenham also in race
Manchester United have joined the race for Besiktas star midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup a source close to close to the Istanbul giants revealed to Turkish-Football.
Besiktas want £17 million for the Turkish international star who will have just 12 months remaining on his contract at the end of the season.
Ozyakup has attracted widespread interest from across Europe.
Roma have had a £10 million offer rejected and former Sevillla director of football Monchi underlined that the La Liga side made an offer last summer.
“Sevilla tried to sign him last summer but Besiktas did not want him to leave, the door is however, still open,” Monchi told Estadio Deportivo.
The Daily Star meanwhile recently linked Tottenham with a £12 million move for Ozyakup.
Ozyakup joined Besiktas on a £425,000 move from Arsenal in 2012 in pursuit of regular first-team football.
Turkish-Football have reported that the Gunners are also considering bringing their former youth player form the class of 92 back into the fold.
Arsenal scout Jurgen Kost confirming interest in Ozyakup and underlined that an offer could be on the cards.
Besiktas club president Fikret Orman is determined to keep his star man at the club next season.
Ozyakup will have 12 months remaining on his contract at the end of the season.
Orman revealed that Ozyakup will be offered a new deal.
“We want Ozyakup to stay and will offer a new contract at the end of the season, he is happy here,” Orman was quoted as saying.
Ozyakup rose through the ranks with Jack Wilshere and Francis Coquelin but has arguably gone onto become the most successful of the three.
The 24-year-old has established himself as a star player playing a key role in winning the Turkish league title last season.
Besiktas are favourites to defend the championship and will take on Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals next.
