Belgium international wasn’t surprised by Emre Can’s wonder-goal for Liverpool
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has heaped praise on Emre Can following his stunning goal.
Can scored a contended for goal of the season during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Watford FC on Monday.
The 23-year-old netted his sides only goal and was named as man-of-the-match. Can scored a perfectly executed overhead kick which ended up in the top corner.
However, Mignolet stated that he was not surprised by the technique. The Belgium international stated that he sees that kind of quality from Can every day during training.
“It was a brilliant goal,” Mignolet was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.
“It started with a great pass from Lucas and Emre finished it off so well.
“I was in line with the ball and I saw it going away from the keeper – he had no chance.
“Emre also scored that outstanding goal against Burnley recently so it wasn’t a big surprise to me.
“Two days before the game we practised shooting a lot in training and they all tried their best to beat me.
“Full credit to Emre for the technique he showed. Getting up like that and then having the flexibility to connect and put the ball in the net like that. It was very impressive.
“It means so much more when a goal like that gives you three points, especially at this stage of the season. If we keep a clean sheet then we know with the quality we’ve got going forward we’ll have a great chance of winning games.”
Can has enjoyed a spell in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven in recent weeks following Jordan Henderson’s injury.
The 23-year-old’s Liverpool future is however cast in doubt. Can will have just 12 months remaining on his contract with Liverpool at the end of the season.
Liverpool moved three points clear of fourth placed Manchester City following their win on Monday night. The Reds take on Southampton in the Premier League this weekend.
