‘I got confidence’ – Liverpool contract rebel reveals how winning Confederations Cup will help him
Liverpool star midfielder Emre Can has spoken about winning his first international trophy.
The 23-year-old was part of the Germany side with traveled to Russia for the Confederations Cup earlier this summer.
Germany lifted the title after defeating Chile in the final by a 1-0 score line. Can was not included in the starting line up however, came on late in the second half in place of Timo Werner.
The former Bayer Leverkusen man has stated that the win has boosted his confidence and is looking forward to build upon his success this season.
“It was a very proud moment and it was my first international trophy,” Can told Liverpoolfc.com.
“I think we did very well as a team there and nobody expected we would win that cup. We played with such a young team and we were very happy.
“It’s always nice to play for your country and I played against top players, top countries. Everybody enjoyed it and I learned a lot and got a lot of experience.
“If you win a trophy you get confidence. I got confidence and now I want to go into the season with confidence.”
Can cemented a place in Liverpool’s starting line-up last season. However, the 23-year-old has under 12 months remaining on his contract with the Reds. If Can fails to pen a new deal, he could leave for free next summer.
Liverpool take on Watford FC on August 12 for the first game of their 2016-17 Premier league season.
