“If I were Wenger, I’d say, Get out” – Arsenal legend slams Mesut Ozil, urges club to sell star playmaker
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has slammed Mesut Ozil for his inconsistent performances.
Ozil played the full 90 minutes during the Gunners embarrassing 4-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool last weekend. The 28-year-old was heavily criticised for his role in the defeat at Anfield.
Former France international Petit believed Ozil is now past his best and that he finds watching the playmaker frustrating. Furthermore, Petit believes Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger should show Ozil the door.

“It’s been a while since he played a good game, and even longer since he put a string of good performances together,” Petit told French outlet SFR Sport.
“He’s still able to put in one good performance, but good performances over three, four, five weeks. I don’t think we’ll see Ozil at that level again.
“What disappoints me most is his attitude, his defeatist attitude on the pitch, his nonchalance that transmits to his teammates.
“Arsene keeps him on the pitch. If I were the coach, I’d say, “Mesut, you want to leave? There’s the door. Be sure to close it on the way out.” If I were Arsene Wenger, I’d say, “Get out.”
Ozil made the move to Arsenal from Real Madrid for £42 million back in September 2013. The World Cup winner has won three FA Cup trophies since joining the club.
The 28-year-old’s future at Arsenal is currently cast in doubt. Ozil has under 12-months remaining on his contract with the Gunners.
Arsenal find themselves in 15th place in the Premier League following two defeats and one victory after three games. The north London-based club take on Bournemouth next weekend as they look to return to winning ways.
It’s horrible but I now agree, Ozil is a detriment to Arsenal at this point. Yes, he creates a lot of chances and is a good player but his body language drags the team down. And his defensive work rate is horrendeous. The first goal from Liverpool could have been stopped if Ozil hadn’t been sleepwalking in the box. He allowed Fermino to slip in behind him and head the ball into the goal. We need fresh players, a summer cleaning to make Arsenal sharp once again. It’s a shame Wenger is incompetent or it would have already have happened. We need a new manager badly.
