“Hold the club to ransom” – Craig Burley slams Mesut Ozil for criticising ex-Arsenal players

Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has slammed Mesut Ozil for his latest social media outburst.

Ozil took aim at former Arsenal players and pundits for their frequent criticism of him.

The 28-year-old was in the firing line following Arsenal’s defeats to Stoke City and Liverpool.

However, Burley believes that while Ozil is a talent, the Germany international goes missing in big games.

Furthermore, Burley stated that Ozil is in no position to criticise former players as he is yet to pen a new deal with the north London-based club.

“Here’s a guy Mesut Ozil who is clearly a talent,” Burley said on ESPN FC.

“But he does it when it suits him, not particularly in the bigger games for Arsenal.

“He’s talking about ex-players and there are quite a few Arsenal ex-players, like there are Chelsea and Man Utd, they all panda to the clubs because they want to get in, they want to get their dinner and want to get wined and dined on match days.

“I’m still waiting for an invite from an ex-club!,” he quipped.

“Here’s what you’ve got with Mesut Ozil, he’s criticising former players for criticising, saying ‘get behind us and support us, oh and by the way, in the meantime I am just going to sit back and hold the club to ransom on a £300,000-a-week contract (offer)’ or whatever it is.

“He’s not signed has he, so he’s not exactly supporting his club by not signing a contract, but they’ve got to get behind him whilst he makes his mind up? I think not.”

Ozil has been in scintillating form for the Germany national team.

The former Schalke 04 playmaker provided an assist against the Czech Republic last week. Ozil followed up with a goal and another assist against Norway on Monday night.
