“This is a massive game” – Ex-England international reveals Liverpool v Man United prediction

Former England international Paul Merson has revealed his prediction for this weekend’s high-profile encounter between Liverpool and Manchester United.

The clash takes place at Anfield on Saturday, kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 (GMT).

Merson believes the injury to Sadio Mane is a huge blow to Liverpool and can’t see how the Reds can win without their star winger.

Mane suffered a hamstring injury while on international l duty with Senegal and is expected to be out for up to six weeks.

Merson also expects Manchester United to adopt a cautious approach and is predicting a 1-1 draw on the day.

“This is a massive game, but I just don’t see how Liverpool win without Sadio Mane. I half-fancied them with Mane, but I can’t see it now,” Merson told SkySports.

“It will be interesting to see how United approach it. You would like to think, with the squad and firepower they have got, that they will have a go. But we have said that before and they have parked the bus, so we will have to see what happens.

“It’s a big game for Romelu Lukaku. Now he is with one of the big boys he has to perform against the big boys.

“Manchester United are a better team but Liverpool’s home advantage should help them get a draw.”

Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle United a fortnight ago and have recorded just one win in their last seven games.

Man United meanwhile swept aside Crystal Palace with a 4-0 victory and are unbeaten in ten games.

Jurgen Klopp does have a strong record against Mourinho. The German tactician has faced Mou six times, won three times, drawn twice and lost once.
