Robbie Savage pins Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Watford on one player

BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage has pinned Arsenal’s defeat at the hands of Watford FC on Mesut Ozil’s inability to convert his chance to a goal.

The 29-year-old came on in the second half in place of Danny Welbeck and immediate came close to putting his side 2-0 up by sliding a perfectly weighted through ball in the path of Alex Iwobi.

Iwobi unfortunately missed the opportunity. Several minutes late Ozil missed a guilt edged one-on-one with Watford goalkeeper Hilario Gomes.

Savage stated that Ozil’s miss was the reason Arsenal lost and slammed the World Cup winners technique.

“I think he should score that, Mesut Ozil, “People say about his talent but he has to score that,” Savage stated live on BT Sport.

“The thing was he was so laboured in the way he hit it, he didn’t even go for a corner.

“He’s either got to open his body up and put it in the far corner, or give the goalkeeper the eyes, but he went straight at the goalkeeper!

“That’s a comfortable save, what is he, 16-yards out, just inside the penalty box, and he hit it straight at the goalkeeper.

“Arsenal now, since the defeat to Liverpool, they’ve done okay.

“But now, they’ve gone to Watford and it’s the same old same old.

“Now the manager will get hammered, but saying that the manager will get hammered, but he’s brought on Ozil and he should have wrapped the game up for them.”

Arsenal find themselves in sixth place with 13 points after eight games. The Gunners are already nine points behind leaders Manchester City.
