Arsenal ‘very, very close’ to reaching contract break through with £42m star playmaker
Arsenal are still hopeful of extended Mesut Ozil’s contract before the transfer window re-opens in January.
The 29-year-old has been closely linked with an exit from the north London based club after failing to pen a new deal. Ozil has under six months left on his contract and will be free to discuss terms with European clubs from January 1 onwards.
According to the Sun, Arsenal remain hopeful Ozil will still commit his future to the club. Per the source, a breakthrough in negotiations is ‘very, very close’.
Ozil’s agent Dr Erkut Sogut has been in talks with Arsenal for over a year over fresh terms.
However, the Sun goes onto state that Arsenal will look to sell Ozil in January if they are unable to strike a deal in December. The Gunners have placed a £20 million price tag on their star man.
The Germany international playmaker made the move to Arsenal from Real Madrid for £42.5m in the summer of 2013. Ozil has gone to make 127 Premier League appearances for the Gunners.
