Le Tallec, now 30, signed for Liverpool along with Florent Sinama-Pongolle when he was still a teenager during the Gérard Houllier era at the Premier League giants.

Le Tallec has three assists and 13 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions for Valenciennes this season.

The 30-year-old has previously played for Liverpool, Le Harve, St Etienne, Sunderland, Sochaux, Le Mans and Auxerre.

Valenciennes sit in 16th place in French Ligue 2 with 39 points in 37 games. Les Athéniens take on Gazelec Ajaccio this weekend knowing a win will guarantee them safety from relegation.
