Besiktas target Martin Skrtel denies signing contract extension with Liverpool

Besiktas received a boost in their quest to sign Martin Skrtel after the Slovakian international denied reports claiming that he had singed a contract extension with Liverpool.

The 31-year-old stated that both fans and the media had been fooled by a fake Facebook account which said he had agreed terms with the Red’s.

“I have my own profile on Facebook. I use it for communication with my fans and I operate it through the agency Stars and Friends,” Skrtel was quoted as saying by the Express.

“I strongly disavow the profile on which the false information was published. I have not created the profile and I do not have a clue who the administrator is.”

Beşiktaş manager Şenol Güneş gave the green light for the club to target Liverpool defender Skrtel according to Eurosport TR.

Liverpool signed Skrtel from Zenit St. Petersburg back in 2008 and the experienced defender is now closing on 300 appearances for the Premier League giants.

The Slovakian international made 48 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this season and still has a year left on his contract.

Beşiktaş finished the Turkish Super Lig season in third place and will play in the Europa League next season.
