Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stated that he wants Mesut Ozil to score more goals this season. The experienced manager wants at least ten goals from the Germany international.
“But I want more goals from him because he plays in that position and he is a good finisher. But he doesn’t take enough chances,” Wenger was quoted as saying by the official Arsenal website.
“He is conscious of it and wants to do it now so I am confident in that. I believe he is in positions where he can finish better and we want 10 goals from him this season.
“But his main aspect will always be in the intelligence of his passing and his creativity.”
Özil provided nine assists and five goals in 32 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions last season and won two Vitality Arsenal Player of the Month and a PFA Fans Player of the Month award in 2015 after recovering from a lengthy injury.
The 26-year-old played 81 minutes in Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over rivals Chelsea in the Community Shield yesterday.
Özil has won his four pieces of silverware this summer including the FA Cup, Barclays Asia Trophy and the Emirates Cup. The 26-year-old playmaker played in all four finals and has yet to lose a final for Arsenal since joining on a record £42.5 million from Real Madrid in 2013.
The Gunners kick off their league campaign next week against London rivals West Ham.
