Emre Can has set his sights high this season by stating that he believes Liverpool can challenge for the Premier League title.
The Germany u21 international has heaped praise on the Red’s squad and has said they must get off to a strong start.
“We have a very, very strong team, with a lot of good-quality players, who work together well as a team,” Can told LiverpoolFC.com.
“I think if we can start well and get a few good results under our belt, we can then keep our focus on each match as it comes, and hopefully compete for the title.
“We’ll wait and see just how far we can get in terms of a title race.”
Liverpool last won the league in 1990 and are yet to win the title in the Premier League era. The Red’s came close in 2009 under Rafael Benitez when they finished second, four points behind Manchester United.
The Merseyside club take on Stoke City in the opening game of the 2015-16 season. Liverpool were defeated by the Potters 6-1 in their last encounter.
Can is coming off the back of an impressive display playing in midfield for the Germany U-21 side in the 2015 U-21 European Championships.
The 21-year-old made a total of 27 appearances for Liverpool last season and also featured in the FA Cup and Europa League.
