Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has stated that it is time for Emre Can to prove his worth.
The former Reds midfielder expressed his views regarding Can in the Liverpool Echo newspaper.
Can could be in line to start for Liverpool in Monday’s clash with Arsenal following an injury to Jordan Henderson.
“Now’s the time for Emre Can to show us what he is worth,” Lawrenson told the Echo.
“Can has come off the bench for the first two games this season and made a difference by solidifying the Liverpool midfield.
“But with Jordan Henderson likely to miss out on Monday’s trip to Arsenal, the German can expect to be thrown in from the start.
“Especially with Brendan Rodgers clearly having decided time is up for Lucas Leiva.”
Can has yet to start for the Reds this season but has came off the bench in both Premier League games this season.
The 21-year-old joined Liverpool as a central midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen last summer but has spent most of his time at the Premier League giants as a defender.
Can played in Brendan Rodgers back-three last season and as a right-back. Rodgers is however, expected to play Can as a midfielder this season.
Liverpool take on Arsenal next at the Emirates stadium on Monday 24 August.
