Liverpool legend John Aldridge stated that Emre Can needs to remain in the Reds midfield setup and that he is in need of more playing time.
Aldridge wrote the following in his Liverpool Echo column: “It won’t be an easy game, against a Bordeaux side that has a good home record, but my feeling is that Liverpool have a lot of players who will have points to prove in France, and we must use that.
“I expect that Sakho and Toure will start, Moreno too. I’d give Jordan Rossiter and Jordon Ibe a go too, and definitely Ings and Origi.
“I’d say Firmino should play too, as they need to get him going, and Emre Can needs as many games in midfield as he can.”
The Reds take on Ligue 1 side Bordeaux in their opening Europa League group stage game of the season.
Liverpool reached the Europa League Round of 32 last season and while Can did feature in the campaign he was deployed as a defender in Brendan Rodgers back-three.
The Premier League giants were knocked out by Turkish Super League outfit Beşiktaş on penalty shoot outs.
Can has made five appearances in the Premier League for the Reds this season and started in the 3-1 defeat against rivals Manchester United on the weekend.
The 21-year-old also recently made his Germany international debut against Poland in Euro 2016 Group D becoming the third player of Turkish origin to feature in the current national team setup – Mesut Özil and İlkay Gündoğan being the others.
