Barcelona’s place in the Spanish La Liga is at risk amid the prospect of a referendum on Catalonian independence from Spain according to the Daily Mail.
The report goes onto state that Barcelona will be offered a place in the French Ligue 1 if they leave La Liga.
In an interview with newspaper Journal du Dimanche, French prime minister Manuel Valls stated that he would have no objection to the UEFA Champions
“Monaco play in Ligue 1, so why not Barcelona?” Valls told Journal du Dimanche.
AS Monaco, the club of the Riviera micro-state, have played in Ligue 1 since 1953, but their inclusion has caused some controversy, given the place’s status as a tax haven.
Despite being signed from Atletico Madrid on a £24 million transfer in the summer Barcelona cannot register Turan until the turn of the year.
Turan was however, part of the Turkish national team side that booked a place in Euro 2016 following victories over the Czech Republic and Iceland last week.
