Ex-England international Alan Shearer tore into Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil following his role in Arsenal’s weekend defeat.
The Gunners suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion. Sunday afternoon’s loss has left Arsenal 13 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.
Arsene Wenger and his players have come under intense pressure following the shock result. However, Alan Shearer opted to single out Mesut Ozil for his role in Arsenal’s defeat.
The BBC Match of The Day pundit believes the Gunners attacking players should receive the majority criticism. Shearer went onto slam Ozil for his lack of effort in midfield.
The Newcastle United legend believes Ozil’s lack of intensity without the ball is costing Arsenal.

“I think the issue for them is going forward,” Shearer stated live on Match of the Day 2.
“They are not creating enough, especially in the last few weeks. It made it much easier for Brighton to defend. Everything they were doing was in front of Brighton, they needed men to run in behind.
“Mesut Ozil has just signed a new contract – he should have some responsibility.
“He was walking and not running to get the ball back. When you have got attitudes like that then you are going to have serious problems.”
Ozil recently put pen-to-paper on a new Arsenal deal making him the highest paid player at the north London based club
Arsenal will be hoping to male amend when they take on AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday night at the San Siro. Winning the Europa League is the Gunners last remaining hope of playing UEFA Champions League football next season.
