Arsenal boss fires back at Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard after he roasted Gunners playmaker following Stoke defeat

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has defended his star playmaker following the Gunners defeat to Stoke City.

The Potters recorded a 1-0 win over Arsenal with the games only goal coming from new transfer Jese Rodriguez.

Following the game Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and former Arsenal defender Martin Keown slammed Ozil during the post-match analysis on BT Sport.

Both Gerrard and Keown stated that Ozil didn’t do enough when Arsenal were without possession of the ball.

Wenger defended Ozil and stated that he did ‘fight‘ during the 90 minutes.

“I think he [Ozil] did fight,” Arsenal boss Wenger told reporters after the game.

“It is difficult to single anybody out. I believe we had many, many chances and personally I don’t think he deserves [criticism].”

Ozil played the full 90 minutes on Saturday and will be hoping to make amends for the Gunners next weekend. Arsenal face a tough challenge against Liverpool at Anfield on August 27.

Liverpool recorded their first Premier League win against Crystal Palace over the weekend.
