Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that Mesut Özil could have his best season yet at the club.
The experienced manager heaped praise on the Germany international after Arsenal’s 6-0 victory over Lyon in the Emirates cup.
When asked if this could be Özil’s best season at the club, Wenger replied “yes.” (Daily Mail)
“He missed the whole first part of the season last year and came back to his best level in the second part of the season – hopefully he can deliver a whole season now.”
The Gunners recorded an emphatic 6-0 victory over Lyon last week with goals coming from Giroud, Oxlade Chamberlain, Iwobi, Ramsey, Cazorla and Özil.
Özil provided the assist for Olivier Giroud’s opener via a well placed free-kick. Özil also set up Aaron Ramsey goal towards the end of the half which ended in a 4-0 scoreline. The 26-year-old went on to score a well placed half volley to put his side 5-0 up.
The 26-year-old provided nine assists and five goals in 32 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions last season.
