Mesut Ozil revealed that the reason Arsenal are 11 points behind league leaders Leicester City is because they have on occasion underestimated opposition this season.
Ozil stated that his side did not take teams considered to be ‘smaller teams’ as seriously as the traditional giants.
“We did not play to our potential in the games against the so-called smaller teams. You immediately get punished for that in the Premier League,” Ozil was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
The north London based outfit have defeated Leicester twice and drawn twice against second placed Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
The Gunners have however, been defeated by the likes of league strugglers Swansea at the Emirates.
The World Cup winner does however, believe that the Gunners can make up lost ground and lift the Premier League title.
“But we still have a chance of winning the title. We have to hope Leicester and Tottenham slip up and then make the most of it.”
Arsenal take on Watford next at the Emirates on Saturday 2 April – Ozil is expected to start after returning from the international break featuring against both England and Italy.
