Arsenal boss Wenger confirms contract talks with Man United target are underway
Manchester United suffered a blow in the race to sign Germany international playmaker Mesut Ozil.
The 29-year-old has been closely linked with a move away from the Gunners after failing to put pen to paper on a new deal. Ozil has entered the final six months of his contract and will be free to sign a pre-contract deal with European clubs from January 1 onwards.
Yesterday we reported that Arsenal were set to launch a late and improved contract offer which is close to Ozil’s £300,000 per-week demands.

Today, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed that talks with Ozil are underway.
“Negotiations are always going on with everybody. Our door is always open,” Wenger was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“For the rest, I can not tell you much more.”
Manchester United and Barcelona have both been linked with a move for Ozil in recent weeks.
Wenger also commented on Alexis Sanchez’s contract situation.
“I don’t want to talk about that because the best way to deal with this kind of thing is to keep it as discreet as possible.”
Both Ozil and Sanchez are expected to feature when Arsenal take on their London rivals West Ham United in the Premier League tomorrow.
