Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville stated that Mesut Özil does not score enough goals following Arsenal’s goalless draw against Liverpool at the Emirates stadium.
“I have seen him have great games, he makes passes, assists but doesn’t score enough goals,” Neville said speaking on Monday Night Football.
Özil has yet to score this season and has only managed 12 goals in 75 appearances for the Gunners. The World Cup winner has never had the most prolific goal scoring record wherever he has played.
The 26-year-old playmaker had 27 goals in 159 games for Real Madrid and 16 goals in 108 matches for Werder Bremen.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger also recently revealed that he wants more goals from Özil this season – 10 or more to be precise.
“But he doesn’t take enough chances when he is in a position where he can finish. He is conscious of it and wants to do it now. His main aspect will always be the intelligence of his passing, but we want 10 goals per season from him,” Wenger was quoted as saying by the Independent.
The 26-year-old is better known for his passing ability and setting up goals but not actually scoring himself. Özil already has an assist to his name this season and a grand total of 24 for the North London based club.
The World Cup winner is expected to start his third consecutive game for the North London based club against Newcastle United next in the Premier League.
