SkySports pundit Phil Thompson has stated that despite having a great season, Arsenal’s star playmaker Mesut Ozil has begun to tail off in recent weeks.
The former Liverpool man was asked to name his player of the season and has Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Dimitri Payet all ahead of the Germany international.
“Mesut Ozil has had a great season but looks tired and Harry Kane has been great but started quietly, while Dimitri Payet has to be on the shortlist as well,” Thompson told SkySports.
Jamie Vardy is currently the Premier League’s top scorer with 19 goals.
Ozil has created a total of chances this season (115) and has 18 assists to his name. The Germany international is just two assists off matching the Premier League record of 20 set by Thierry Henry.
Arsenal take on Watford FC in the FA Cup this weekend then travel to Spain to take on Barcelona at the Camp Nou next week.
