Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Çalhanoğlu showed his Instagram followers that in addition to being one of the best free kick takers in world football he also knows how to ride a horse.
Çalhanoğlu shared a picture riding a horse in the town of Bayburt in the Black Sea region of Turkey.
The equestrian sport of Jereed (Cirit) is popular in the Bayburt area. The game is a traditional Turkish equestrian team sport played on horseback in which the objective is to score points by throwing a blunt wooden javelin at opposing team’s horsemen.
The sport originates from Central Asia and was brought to Anatolia by the westward migration of the Oghuz Turks beginning in the 11th centurty.
