Arsenal team news: Arsene Wenger confirms Mesut Ozil could miss Bournemouth clash – seen specialist for knee injury

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed the extent of Mesut Ozil’s injury which kept him out of the Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea.

The 29-year-old was taken out of the squad shortly before kick-off much to Arsenal fans surprise. However, the Gunners quickly took to social media to clear up the confusion and confirmed Ozil missed the game due to an injury.

Fortunately, the Gunners managed to hold Chelsea to a 0-0 draw in Ozil’s absence.

Following the game Arsene Wenger revealed to reporters that Ozil has seen a specialist over a knee problem.

The Germany international has been carrying the problem for a fortnight and missed Arsenal’s draw at West Brom on New Year’s Eve.

“He is recovering from his knee problem,” Wenger told reporters.

“He has seen a specialist today, we hope it will be short term.

“He came in yesterday and couldn’t practice. We hope for Sunday.”

Ozil’s long-term future at the club is cast in doubt after failing to pen a new contract. The 29-year-old could end up leaving the club for free this summer.
