‘Arsenal would be silly to meet his contract demands’ – Stewart Robson rips into Mesut Ozil
Former Arsenal defender Stewart Robson has slammed contract-rebel Mesut Ozil during a radio interview.
Ozil is currently in negotiations with Arsenal over a new contract. The Germany international currently has just under 12 months remaining on his contract with the north London based club.
Robson believes Ozil only wants to remain at Arsenal because no other club in Europe is willing to match his lofty contract demands.
The former defender went onto say that the Gunners would be ‘silly‘ to give Ozil a lucrative new deal.
“As we have seen with Ozil over the last three years, he can do some great things but in some of the big games he has gone missing,” Robson told TalkSport.
“He is not dynamic enough at times and when Arsenal aren’t playing well, tactically he is a passenger.
“You can’t pay somebody £400,000-a-week and him be a passenger every third week. That is not good enough from a top player and that is why other clubs like the Real Madrid, who he was at before, and Bayern Munich haven’t taken him back.”

The former Real Madrid star racked up 14 assists and 12 goals in 44 apperances for Arsenal lasts season.
Ozil was included in the Arsenal squad which travelled to Australia as part of their pre-season tour. The 28-year-old is expected to feature when the Gunners take on Bayern Munich on 19 July in Shanghai and Chelsea on 22 July in Beijing.
