Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that he believes Mesut Özil has won over the fans following a difficult start to his career at the North London based club.
The former Real Madrid star has been in good form since the turn of the year winning two Vitality Arsenal Player of the Month and a PFA Fans Player of the Month award.
“He had a difficult start but slowly he has won over our fans and feeling the reactions in the crowd, he has their support,” Wenger was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
“We have more cohesion than last year at the same period, everyone has a better focus. Last year was a post-World Cup year and some players came back mentally exhausted, hopefully we can take advantage of that.”
The Germany international has recently been linked with a move to the Serie A champions Juventus by the Italian sports paper Tuttomercato. However, the Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has played down any talks of Özil’s exit from the club.
Özil has already won three trophies this summer including the FA Cup, the Barclays Asia Trophy and most recently the Emirates Cup. Arsenal could add to their silverware next week when they take on Chelsea in the Community Shield.
The World Cup winner provided nine assists and five goals in 32 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions last season.
