Aston Villa released the following statement on the official club website: “Aston Villa can confirm that Diego Carlos has joined Fenerbahçe for an undisclosed fee.

The defender played his last match on December 30 vs Brighton. He signed for Villa in the summer of 2022, joining from Sevilla and made 58 appearances in 3 seasons in claret and blue.

Aston Villa Football Club would like to wish Diego good luck in his new professional chapter.”

Fenerbahce are reported to have paid €10 million (£8.45m) for the 31-year-old, who has struggled for consistent playing time at Villa Park this season.

Carlos made 58 appearances for Villa following his arrival from Sevilla in 2022, scoring one goal. However, he has not been involved in the club’s last five matches.

Aston Villa released a statement confirming the transfer, wishing Carlos “good luck in his new professional chapter.”

Fenerbahce, managed by Jose Mourinho, are currently second in the Turkish Super Lig, six points behind leaders Galatasaray. The addition of Carlos will provide a boost to their defensive options as they aim to close the gap at the top of the table.
