Barcelona team news: Luis Enrique sweating over availability of two key players Arda Turan and Javier Mascherano

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique gave an update on the availability of two key players ahead of the Sportin Gijon clash scheduled to be played on Wednesday.

Enrique revealed that both Arda Turan and Javier Mascherano have returned to training in his pre-match press conference.

The Barca boss did however, state that he is still not certain if they will be available or not.

Enrique will have to wait until tomorrow to find out whether Turan and Mascherano will be match ready in time for the La Liga game.

“Mascherano and Arda have trained with the rest of the squad today and tomorrow the medical staff will confirm if they are available or not,” Enrique was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

Both players have missed the last four games, against Alaves, PSG, Leganes and Atletico Madrid.

Turan was expected to return against his former club Atleti over the weekend but failed to make a full recovery in time for the 2-1 victory which temporarily took Barca top of the table.

Barcelona are in for a busy week with games against Sporting Gijon, Celta Vigo and Paris Saint-Germain within the space of eight days so the return of Turan and Mascherano will be a major boost for Enrique.

Turan has 13 goals and seven assists in all competitions for Barcelona this season which is his best return since moving to Spain from Turkey.

Barca have seen hopes of defending the league title boosted following Real Madrid’s defeat to Valencia and their rivals had to come from two goals behind to record a victory over Villarreal over the weekend.

Real Madrid are currently one point ahead of Barcelona with one game in hand.
