Barcelona v Sporting – Probable lineups – Barca face defensive problems

Barcelona host Sporting Gijon on Wednesday evening at the Camp Nou as they look to keep the pressure on their rivals Real Madrid.

The reigning La Liga champions can momentarily leap-frog Madrid into first place however, Zinedine Zidane’s side will regain pole position if they defeat Las Palmas later the same evening.

Barca boss Luis Enrique is facing selection issues in defence going into the mid-week clash.

Right back Alex Vidal has been ruled out for the rest of the season while ESPN state that Jeremy Mathieu is unlikely to feature.  The France international damaged ankle ligaments during Barcelona’s win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Marca states that Javier Mascherano is also a major doubt going into tomorrow’s clash.

There was however, some positive news for Enrique, Turkey international Arda Turan has returned to first-team training and is expected to be fully fit for the Wednesday game. Turan missed Barcelona’s previous three games due to a muscle injury.
