Basaksehir 2-1 Fenerbahce: Napoleoni Takes Istanbul Minnows One Step Closer To League Title

Basaksehir beat Fenerbahce 2-1 at the Fatih Terim Stadium to open up an 11 point gap with second placed Galatasaray at the top of the Super Lig table.

The Istanbul minnows took an early lead when Robinho reacted first to a goalkeeping blunder by Volkan Demirel on 19 minutes.

Basaksehir have the best defensive record in the league but also made a defensive error to allow Soldado in for the equaliser on 73 minutes.

Mert Gunok has now conceded just 12 goals in 24 games this season for the league leaders.

Fenerbahce have a few golden opportunities to take the lead but it was Basaksehir who had the last laugh.

Edin Visca carved open the opposition defence threading through a delightful pass to Napoleoni who slotted the ball past the keeper.

Basaksehir were simply better organised, worked harder defensively and were more decisive on the night.

Fenerbahce meanwhile are currently just a single point above the relegation zone.
