Bayer Leverkusen held Barcelona to a 1-1 draw at the BayArena but it was not enough to take them through into the Champions League Last 16 as Roma drew the other Group E game 0-0 against BATE.
Leverkusen finished the group in third place on six points but did mange to book a place in the Europa League Round 0f 32.
Bayer star Hakan Çalhanoğlu did start for Bayer as did fellow Turkish international Ömer Toprak.
Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Barcelona on 20 minutes but Chicharito equalised just three minutes later thanks to an assist from Çalhanoğlu. Bayer came close to scoring the goal on a number of occasions but were unable to convert their chances and ended up bowing out of the competition.
