Besiktas star sends warning to Man United & all Europa League favourites

Besiktas star striker has sent a warning to the rest of the teams in the Europa League that the reigning Turkish league champions should not be underestimated.

Tosun underlined that while there are teams that are favourites on paper to lift the trophy like Manchester United and Lyon, Besiktas will prove to be worthy underdogs.

“There are strong teams left, teams that are the favourites but we have the quality to get to the very end and win the trophy,” Tosun was quoted as saying by Sampiy10.

“We want to make history.”

Besiktas would qualify for the Europa League semi-finals for the first time if they make it past Lyon.

The Black Eagles would face either United, Anderlecht, Celta Vigo, Genk, Schalke or Ajax in the last four.

United take on Anderlecht, Celta Vigo face Genk and Schalke will play Ajax in the other quarter-final games set to be played next week.

The Istanbul giants have never won the Europa League before and according to the bookmakers they are rank outsiders.

Besiktas are currently leaders in the Turkish league, five points clear of second placed Basaksehir.

The defending champions are favourites to defend their title this season.
