British Ambassador to Turkey urges Chelsea defender to consider joining Turkish league giants

British Ambassador to Turkey, Richard Moore is well known for his fondness of Besiktas and Chelsea.

Moore spoke live on beIN Sport before the Istanbul derby between Besiktas and Fenerbahce.

The ambassador revealed that he was delighted with both of his teams looking likely to win their respective leagues.

Moore also said that he would like Chelsea legend John Terry to join the Black Eagles next season.

The ambassador said if Terry needs to speak to anyone about Besiktas and life in Istanbul that he would be happy to put in a good word.

“I have worked in Turkey since the 1990’s, back then Gordon Milne was in charge of Besiktas which intrigued me,” Moore was quoted as saying.

“Additionally I always lived in Besiktas, now as you may now it is traditional in England to support your local team so Besiktas it was.

“I hope Chelsea and Besiktas both win the league, it would be like a double for me.

“Besiktas play exciting football, there is a bit of a problem in defence which we could strengthen with John Terriy.

“If John Terry is considering a move it would not be difficult for me to sell Istanbul, Turkey and Besiktas to him.”

Moore has been the British Ambassador to Turkey since January 2014 according to Gov.uk.

Terry has confirmed that he will be leaving the Premier League leaders at the end of the season.

The Blues legend has revealed that he does want to continue playing football.

“I feel I still have plenty to offer on the pitch but understand that opportunities here at Chelsea will be limited for me,” Terry, 36, said.

“I’m eager to carry on playing and so will be looking to continue with a new challenge.”

Besiktas have been linked with Terry. The Black Eagles are favourites to win the Turkish league title for the second consecutive season.

The Istanbul giants do have defensive problems and have conceded the highest number of goals in the top three.
