Chelsea suffer transfer blow as Uruguayan superstar Muslera opens contract talks

Chelsea transfer news

Chelsea have been closely linked with Fernando Muslera following a report in the Telegraph revealing that the Blues have added the Galatasaray star to their three-man goalkeeper shortlist.

Per the source, the London based outfit are preparing for Asmir Begovic’s possible exit as they are aware he wants regular first team football and has been linked with a move away from the club.

The Premier League outfit are also reported to be interested in Craig Gordon and Diego Lopez.

The Lions are desperate to keep hold of Muslera over the transfer window and in order to secure his services a five-year contract extension has been offered a source close to the club told Turkish-Football.com.

The Uruguayan international would initially be brought in as second choice keeper for Chelsea if he were to make the move.

Muslera has been first choice striker for Galatasaray and Uruguay for years. The 30-year-old keeper is still relatively young for a player in his position and has established himself as a fan favourite.

The Uruguayan international’s current deal runs until 2018 and he has settled into life in Istanbul.

Muslera has won the Copa America with Uruguay as well as three league titles with Galatasaray.

The experienced keeper has revealed in the past that he is open to playing Premier League football but he wants a first team role.

The Galatasaray star has been linked with several Premier League sides in the past and has years of top-tier, international and Champions League football under his belt.

The Lions are currently third in the Turkish league title race, five points behind league leaders Besiktas.

Muslera is expected to start for Galatasaray against Kayserispor over the weekend.
