“I will not be manager of Barcelona next season,” Enrique was quoted as saying by ESPN after the game.

“In preseason I had a meeting with [club directors Albert] Soler and Robert [Fernandez], during which I spoke about the possibility of not renewing.

“They told me that there was no rush to decide. But the moment has arrived.

“The reason is the way I have to live this profession, constantly looking to improve. It means I have very little time to rest.

“It’s been a difficult, but well-thought-through decision. I need to rest. I would like to thank the club for the confidence they have shown in me and for three unforgettable years.”

The departure of Enrique could result in an uncertain future as far as Arda Turan is concerned.

Enrique played a major role in Turan joining the club in 2015 from Atletico Madrid.

“I made it clear before I went on holiday which players I wanted, and the two players — Turan and Vidal — that we considered important have arrived,” Enrique was quoted as saying on ESPN.

Additionally Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu – who was running for election at the time – urged the board to authorise a bid for Turan.

“I invite the interim committee to sign the player,” he was quoted as saying by Marca.

Radio Cadena SER claimed that the interim club board had ruled out making an offer for Turan until the the presidential elections on 18 July.

Enrique has already turned down two bids from China for Turan and was one of the attacking midfielder’s biggest backers.

A source close to the player recently told Turkish-Football that Turan is unsure what the future will hold for him without Enrique.

Turan does however, still have three years remaining on his current contract and a €60 million release clause.

The 30-year-old has been in good form for Barcelona scoring 13 times and providing seven assists in all competitions.

Turan has been closely linked with a move to the Premier League over the past season. The Sun linked Turan with a move to Chelsea in the summer and Turkish sports newspaper Fotomac claimed that Turan held early talks with the Blues last month.

The Turkish international does regularly travel to London and recently brought a new house near Stamford Bridge stadium.

Turan is the most successful Turkish international to leave the Turkish league winning every domestic trophy in Turkey and Spain as well as the Europa League and European Super Cup.

Barcelona are currently first on goal difference in La Liga after Real Madrid were held to a 3-3 draw against Las Palmas.

The Madrid based outfit do however, have a game in hand.
