Comolli Reveals Why England Midfielder Transfer Stalled Amid Reports West Ham Could Be First Club Since Leaving Arsenal

Jack Wilshere was closely linked with a move to Fenerbahce before West Ham became favorites to sign the 26-year-old.

Fenerbahce sporting director Damien Comolli has opened up about the failed move to sign the England midfielder.

Comolli revealed that Wilshere was keen on the move but that the sticking point proved to be his family.

The former Arsenal man would have had to relocate his family to Istanbul.

“Wilshere really want to make the move and have a fresh start,” Comolli said.

“But he had to think of his family and made a decision that took his children into account.

“We are not looking for players of a similar caliber.”

Comolli has close ties to Arsenal from his time working as a scout for the club between 1996-2004.

The Evening Standard report that West Ham are expected to confirm the transfer of Wilshere on Monday.

The midfielder underwent a comprehensive medical over the weekend and the Hammers are expected to announce a three-year deal.
