Borussia Dortmund were dealt a blow in the title race after being held to a 2-2 draw in the derby against Schalke but there was at least something to cheerful about considering Ilkay Gundogan marked his return from injury.
The 24-year-old midfielder is likely to feature against Liverpool in the Europa League quarter-final second leg at Anfield.
Gundogan missed the Round of 32 tie against Tottenham and the first-leg of the Liverpool clash. The Germany international of Turkish origin was expected to also miss the return game but he has recovered in time.
The Dortmund star will be even more motivated to put on an impressive display against Liverpool – if he does get the nod – considering he is keen on a Premier League move.
Manchester City are reported to be preparing a £25 million bid for Gundogan according to the Sun on Sunday. Liverpool have also been closely linked with the midfielder according to the Daily Star newspaper.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp does of course know Gundogan well from his time in charge of Dortmund in fact he is credited with his development.
