Liverpool’s Emre Can has stated that he can fill the boots of the departing captain Steven Gerrard in midfield next season.
The 21-year-old once again reiterated that he is a midfielder despite spending the majority of the season playing in defence as part of a back three. Can also spent the past month playing at right back.
The Germany U21 international was heavily criticised for his performance against Stoke City during Liverpool’s final game of the season. Can was taken off at half time in place of Kolo Toure.
“Of course he [Rodgers] talks with me every day and says what I can do better. He helps my game,” Can told The Anfield Wrap podcast.
“He wants to play football and that’s what I want. That’s why I came to Liverpool.
“I want to play in midfield and I can take the responsibility [of replacing Gerrard].”
