Can rose through the youth ranks of Bayern Munich before joining Bayer Leverkusen.

The young midfielder was spotted by Liverpool last season and signed for £9.75 million.

Despite joining as a central midfielder Can has played much of the season as a defender in Rodgers back-three.

The 21-year-old has adapted well to becoming a defender, in fact Liverpool have not lost any of their last 10 Premier League games in which Can has started at the back.

Can was born in Germany but is eligible to represent his country of birth and Turkey at international level. The Liverpool youngster has yet to make a senior cap for either country but has played for Germany at youth level.

The 21-year-old has one goal and one assist in 28 appearances in all competitions this season for Liverpool.
