Why Everton Star Cenk Tosun Should Start Ahead Of Niasse Against Arsenal

Everton manager Sam Allardyce decided to start Oumar Niasse over January signing Cenk Tosun against Leicester City mid-week.

Several reasons were given as to why Niasse started but considering he did score with his first shot on target in the 1-1 draw against West Brom it may just have something to do with that.

The Toffees did go onto beat Leicester City but Niasse was not exactly the star of the show.

The striker took just one shot, failed to hit the target.

Niasse worked hard but limitations of his game were exposed. The striker made just 12 passes at 41 percent accuracy making it difficult for Everton to keep possession in the final third and his attempts at creating chances did not pan out as he would have expected.

Niasse has only scored twice as a starter for Everton since joining the club in January 2016.

The Senegal international has contributed more as an impact substitute scoring 5 goals and providing one assist.

The 27-year-old does not have a particularly good record against teams from the top-four either – not that he has had many opportunities to prove himself.

The former Akhisar man did not score or provide an assist against Liverpool or United.

Niasse has not exactly given a lot of time to prove himself but that could be another indication that Everton manager’s do not believe he is good enough.

Tosun meanwhile had an excellent conversion record at Besiktas before joining Everton.

The 26-year-old has a great conversion record scoring 46.67 percent in the league from clear opportunities.

Obviously the Super Lig is not the Premier League but if you look at his Champions League record the stats made even more impressive reading.

Tosun scored a goal every 112.5 minutes in the Champions League this season, converting four times for the Black Eagles, scoring 55 percent of goals from clear opportunities.

The prolific forward has scored with his left and right feet as well as his head and is registering three attempts at goal per-games.

The Turkey international was directly involved in six of the Black Eagles 11 goes in the group stages.

Besiktas went onto cruise through Group G as undefeated leaders.

Tosun has proven a capable goal scorer provided with the right opportunities. The problem at Everton has been just that. A lack of chances.

With Theo Walcott hitting form and the moral boosting win against Leicester, the Everton attack looks like it is starting to gel.

The Toffees have not beat Arsenal away since 1996. They will need their best players to bring their A game if they hope to change history.

The Turkish league may not be at the same level as the Premier League but it is one of the toughest in Europe and in terms of pressure, playing for Besiktas as a star player is like the Merseyside derby every week. Football in Turkey is intense. The Black Eagles have over 10 million fans, 24/7 coverage and every move is scrutinised. Tosun is used to playing in big games. He has the ability to raise his game when needed.

The forward has yet to open his scoring account or provide an assist but he is only two games into his Everton career. Third time luck for Tosun Pasha?
