Everton Team News: Big Sam Hints Cenk Tosun Could Make Debut Against Tottenham But Urges Fans To Be Patient

Everton take on Tottenham at Wembley Stadium in the Premier League today.

January signing Cenk Tosun who was snapped up from Besiktas last Friday could get his debut.

Toffees boss Sam Allardyce hinted that the striker will get his first game for the club against Spurs.

Allardyce revealed he hopes Tosun gets off to the best possible start but also urged fans to be patient if he does not get off to a flyer as he will need time to settle.

In his pre-match presser Big Sam said: “Personally I wouldn’t have wanted to move too much in the transfer market if we didn’t have to but it’s a key element that we’re short of goals and a little bit more creativity in the final third and being a little bit more clinical, we’ve tried to improve that area.

“Hopefully Cenk could be the answer to that but there’s no guarantee. It might not happen until next season but it might happen on Saturday – if he’s selected – and we hope it does and he goes on from there but it might be three or four weeks.

“We’ll all be disappointed if it doesn’t but we’ve got to be patient. All the qualities of the player and the key indicators show that he’s got the right potential to succeed but that’s no guarantee when a player comes from abroad.”

Tosun scored the last time he faced Tottenham, netting the winner in the 1-0 Europa League group stage victory over the North London based outfit in 2014.

The star striker found the back of the net four times while providing two assists in the Champions League for Besiktas this season.

The 26-year-old was directly involved in six of the Black Eagles 11 games in Group G as they cruised through the first round as undefeated leaders.

Tosun will become the first Everton player to score on his debut in Wembley Stadium if he finds the back of the net against Tottenham today.
